Frustration

You wouldn’t know it, but I’ve been more than inundated with comment spam here. You don’t see it because all the comments have to go through an approval process first. For the last few months, that’s meant clicking the Delete button far too many times.
I just finished deleting 387 spam comments, mostly about fake watches and financing my (nonexistant) mortgage. And by the time I post this entry, there will undoubtedly be ten more happily waiting for me to read.
Just to give you an idea of how bad this problem is, this blog currently displays 232 approved comments, but a whopping 3,710 have been posted so far!
Think e-mail spam is bad? You ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.
I’m considering installing MT-Blacklist. It’s a comprehensive add-on for Movable Type that works like Mozilla Thunderbird’s (highly effective) spam filter.
Let me take this opportunity to introduce you to Firefox’s perfect companion, Mozilla Thunderbird!
Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
Just to show you how frustrated I am, comments on some new entries will be open for a limited time only. I don’t care if you have something else to say three months down the line. Yes, I’m that sick of spam.
We’ll see how it goes. If it works out, I’m going to install an MT add-on to automatically do this to every entry.
I just deleted 278 more.

Minh’s Notes
Twenty thousand
Tonight is a special night: I hereby commemorate the 20,000th comment ever posted at my weblog. And would you guess, it’s spam.
