Quiz Team beats St. Ursula

Sorry for the delay; I’ve had trouble finding time to blog. Tuesday afternoon, the St. X Quiz Team played St. Ursula Academy on two levels:

  • The Varsity team chose to be team B again, in its usual humility. After maintaining an average four-point lead throughout most of the team questions, the Varsity team pulled ahead to a 32-point lead during the Alphabet Round. By the end of the Lightning Round, the team finished the game 79–29.

  • The Junior Varsity team dominated the game, finishing the game 73–34. I answered two questions correctly:

What British colony passed the Acts of Toleration?

    (Answer)

What Frenchman, considered to be the father of modern philosophy, asked “Why?” as a child so much that…

    (Answer)

Unfortunately, I also got this easy question wrong:

In what state lies the geographic center of the continental United States?

    (Answer)

I inadvertently thought that the reader asked what state was the geographic center of North America, which is, as I answered, North Dakota.

The GCAL takes a break for the holiday season. Our next game is against Roger Bacon on January 6th.
